Where to Base Yourself for Art Basel Miami Beach

For one week every December, Miami Beach becomes the center of the art world. Art Basel Miami Beach is the anchor of Miami Art Week, drawing collectors, artists, gallerists, and a glamorous international crowd to the Convention Center and the dozens of satellite fairs and parties around it. If you are going, where you stay shapes the entire week. Here is what to expect in 2026 and the residences that put you in the middle of it.

Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 runs December 4 to 6, with VIP preview days on December 2 and 3, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the best places to stay are private residences within walking distance in South Beach and Mid-Beach, such as those at The Setai, 1 Hotel and Homes, and The Miami Beach EDITION.

When and where Art Basel happens in 2026

Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 opens to the public December 4 to 6, 2026, with invitation-only VIP preview days on December 2 and 3, at the Miami Beach Convention Center on 19th Street. The 2026 edition brings 272 exhibiting galleries from more than 40 countries and territories across a reconfigured show floor, with new sectors spotlighting emerging galleries and solo presentations. It is the largest art fair in the United States and the centerpiece of a week that has turned Miami Beach into a global cultural capital each December. The VIP preview days on December 2 and 3 are when the most serious collecting happens and the social calendar begins, so access to those days shapes how many visitors plan the whole trip.

What Miami Art Week actually is

Here is what first-timers underestimate. Art Basel is the anchor, but the week around it, Miami Art Week, is a citywide explosion of fairs, gallery openings, museum shows, installations, and parties. Satellite fairs run across Miami Beach and the mainland, major collections open their doors, and the brands and galleries host events late into the night. The practical consequence is that you are not booking for a single fair but for a packed week of events spread across the Beach and downtown, which is exactly where a private residence with space and its own rhythm beats a hotel room shared with the same crowd you just left at the fair. If this is your first Art Basel and you want the full rundown on tickets, sectors, and what to see, our first-timer’s guide to Art Basel Miami Beach covers it; this guide is about the other half of the trip, where to stay.

The residences to stay in for Art Basel

Because the fair is at the Convention Center in the heart of South Beach, the most convenient bases are the residences within walking distance or a short ride. A few stand out.

The Setai, on Collins Avenue, is one of the most coveted addresses on the Beach, known for its serene, Asian-inspired design and three oceanfront pools, and it sits minutes from the Convention Center. 1 Hotel and Homes South Beach offers eco-luxury residences with full kitchens and oceanfront balconies, pairing a private home with a five-star resort directly on the sand. The Miami Beach EDITION, in Mid-Beach, brings design-forward residences a short drive north of the fair, well suited to those who want a stylish base slightly removed from the densest crowds. Staying in one of these as a private hotel residence means the gallery-district energy outside your door and the seclusion of a home to return to, which during a week this intense is a real luxury. For a group collecting or hosting together, a private villa or penthouse offers space to gather and entertain between fairs.

The satellite fairs and museums worth knowing

Art Basel is the anchor, but part of planning the week is knowing what else is on. A cluster of satellite fairs runs alongside it, several on Miami Beach within reach of the Convention Center and others on the mainland, long-running names such as Untitled Art on the South Beach sand, NADA Miami, SCOPE, and Pulse among them, so confirm the current year’s lineup and dates as you plan. The city’s museums and private collections program major shows for the week too: the Pérez Art Museum Miami on the downtown bay, the Rubell Museum in Allapattah, the Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District, and The Bass on Miami Beach are all worth building into the itinerary. A walkable South Beach base keeps the main fair and the beachside satellites on foot, with a car and driver for the mainland museums and fairs. Our concierge can map the whole week around what you most want to see.

Why a residence beats a hotel room during Art Basel

A week of previews, dinners, and late nights rewards a certain kind of stay. A private residence gives you a full kitchen for a quiet meal before an opening, space for a group to get ready, a pool to recover by, and the freedom to host your own gathering rather than crowd into a bar. For collectors, there is also discretion and room to receive guests privately, which a hotel room cannot offer. The home becomes the calm center of a chaotic, wonderful week.

    Getting around during Art Basel

The fair’s South Beach location is both a blessing and a logistical puzzle. Traffic and parking around the Convention Center are heavy all week, so a residence within walking distance is a genuine advantage, and for trips to the satellite fairs downtown or in Wynwood, a car and driver beats fighting for parking. Our concierge arranges transfers and can navigate the week’s road closures and event logistics, so you move between fairs and dinners without the friction. Staying walkable to the main fair, with a driver for everything else, is the formula that makes the week effortless.

Book early, because Art Basel sells out the Beach

A word on timing, because it is decisive. Art Basel is one of the two or three busiest weeks of the entire Miami year, alongside New Year’s and Music Week, and the finest residences are reserved far in advance, often many months ahead. Rates rise and availability vanishes as December approaches, so if you are planning to be here for the fair, the accommodation should be your first booking, not your last.

Let the concierge handle Art Basel week

A week this full is far easier with a team behind it. LRMB has been hosting guests across Miami since 2007, founded by hoteliers Tony Rajeh and Kristine Hall and grown into a curated collection of more than 90 private residences, guided by a 24/7 concierge and guest relations team. The team can arrange VIP transfers, a private chef for the nights you host, the hardest dinner reservations in town, and the logistics that keep a demanding week running smoothly. Every home is prepared to an exacting standard backed by a 200-point housekeeping inspection, part of why the company is recognized as Miami’s Most Trusted Vacation Rentals Company.

The Setai is superb. Amazing service and terrific facilities — especially the pools and beachfront (although the gym could be a bit larger). The restaurants are wonderful. The renovated Ocean Grill is especially nice, situated as it is by the beach. Unit 2401 has beautiful views of the beach and skyline. The furniture looks very nice but, with the exception of the bed, was not very comfortable — more like furniture used for staging. The kitchen was well equipped for occasional cooking, which is what you will do with the abundance of excellent restaurants within walking distance. We had a splendid five weeks there.

Exceptional experience. This is my third consecutive year booking with LRMB, and they continue to exceed expectations every time. A true 10/10 across the board. The value is outstanding compared to traditional hotels, and the rentals are impeccably appointed with everything you could possibly need. I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else in Miami Beach.

Overall great hotel and rooms. We should have checked rooms in detail upon initial walk through. Upon arrival we found the sheets were filthy, could not get them changed until next day. Several lightbulbs were out. Laundry dryer in one room not functional. Other than that everything was great. Highly recommend.
