golfing

Florida has long been a year-round prime destination for golfers. The sunny skies and warm climates are great for spending plenty of time outdoors.

Miami also happens to be the home of a great many golf courses. In this list, we've gone out of our way to include a wide variety of greens for everyone to choose from. Miami is home to some of the highest caliber courses, challenging ones and others that are better for beginners. Our list welcomes  golf newbies, but we also attracts the more serious golfers in the bunch. Some are listed private golf courses ones so prestigious you need an invitation to apply for membership. We've also included plenty of public golf courses so no matter how often you golf, you'll find the right range for you in the list below.

Doglegs both right and left figure prominently here adding to the challenge - suitable for the University of Miami's women's team who play here. The Soffer Golf Course at Turnberry Isle Miami

19999 West Country Club Blvd, Miami, FL 33180

Turnberry Isle Country Club boasts two 18-hole championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Ray Floyd later reworked the courses in 2007 but he retained the best characteristics of the original layout. At more than 7,000 yards from the back tees, the Soffer Course is the longer and more difficult of the two golf courses at Turnberry. Despite its length, the entire resort only covers 300 acres, making Soffer mostly narrow with holes winding alongside each other and separated by tall trees or mounding. The rolling terrain offers a variety of elevation changes and the twisting layout also features many tricky doglegs. Strategically placed water hazards and carefully carved bunkers come into play throughout as well. The pristine white sand contrasts beautifully with the lush fairways and verdant tropical foliage, providing the perfect setting for a round.

La Gorce Country Club

5685 Alton Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139

La Gorce is one of the top-rated golf courses in town, and certainly one of the most exclusive. Membership to this prestigious country club is by invitation only, but once you're in, you know you've made it. The golf course itself is as pristine as you might imagine. Its location off Alton Road allows for inspiring views of Miami Beach's skyline as well as just enough ocean air to keep you refreshed even on the warmest of days. For true lovers of the game, you might be impressed to play on the same fairways as Ben Hogan and Sam Snead. For the rest, there's a number of additional amenities to enjoy onsite, including tennis courts, a croquet lawn, and an excellent clubhouse that offers perks like complimentary breakfasts and snacks.
